Biografía

Ph.D. in Human Genetics. Founder and head of the Personalized Medicine National Laboratory (LAMPER, CIATEJ, National Council of Science and Technology, CONACYT, Mexico). Member of the Clinical Pharmacogenetics Implementation Consortium (CPIC, National Institutes of Health, USA). Collaborator of the Scripps Research Translational Institute (La Jolla, California) in Dr. Eric Topol´s group.

My professional mission is to deliver innovative and affordable solutions in personalized medicine to increase human QALYs. My group developed SNPClinic v.1.0, software to predict regulatory SNPs (rSNPs) in human proximal promoters. We have discovered rSNPs in HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, psoriasis, early-onset gastric cancer, fabry disease, pharmacogenes, and DEFB1, a constitutive gene of innate immunity that is also a tumor suppressor gene.

We also designed and developed elicitors and inhibitors of antimicrobial peptides as a potential treatment for viral (SARS-CoV-2, HSV-1) and autoimmune diseases (lupus, psoriasis). Currently, we are developing deep learning algorithms to predict the biological and clinical evolution of prostate and breast cancer.

Modernos algoritmos, dispositivos, software y aplicaciones móviles tienen un impacto en la medicina preventiva y personalizada. Sin embargo, estas posibles soluciones de salud pública también tienen un potencial impacto negativo en la población mundial como lo son el riesgo de acentuar la discriminación genética, facilitar y promover la eugenesia y a la injusta privatización del derecho universal a la salud.
